The Well Academic, FAQs

(and fine print)

Q: Something has come up, and I can no longer attend. What is your refund policy?

A: Due to the agreement with the venue, this retreat has a strict refund policy.
If for some reason you find you are unable to attend the retreat, the following policy will apply:

a) Cancellations made 4 weeks or more prior to the event will be refunded in full less booking fees.
b) Within 4 weeks of the event commencement, strictly no refunds will be possible. If you find you are unable to attend, a transfer may be possible, however it will be incumbent upon the purchaser to find a replacement attendee. Please contact to discuss.

Q: How do I get to the venue?

A: The retreat centre is situated in a peaceful bushland setting within the historic Blue Mountains town of Wentworth Falls, 1.5 hrs from Sydney. It is easily accessible by train or car; see the venue website for a map and directions.

Q: Will we be sharing the retreat centre with other guests?

A: The Well Academic retreat group will be housed a recently renovated three-storey house on the Happy Buddah premises in Wentworth Falls. This will ensure privacy for the writing group, whilst allowing participants access to the retreat centre grounds, pool and massage services. The house is adjacent to a private yoga studio where our specific workshops and activities will take place.

Q: What is the accommodation like? Is it high-end?

A: All beds are made up with crisp white linen and the house is spacious, light and airy with high ceilings and couches in quiet corners for contemplation. While not luxury accommodation, the house is furnished to be casual, but comfortable, with a welcoming feel. All bedrooms have leafy views and, where possible, in-room desks are situated by the windows.

Q: I plan to book a shared room. Can I share with a friend?

A: Absolutely! You may book separately, or as part of the one booking. Please let us know the name of the person you’re planning to attend with during the booking process, to ensure we put you in the same room.

Q: What are the specifics of the bathroom situation?

A: There are two bathrooms with showers (one with a separate bath) and three toilets. One bathroom is on the upper level, where four of the bedrooms are located, and one is on the lower level, downstairs from the final two bedrooms. There is a toilet available on each of the three levels.

Q: Do I need to bring towels?

A: Towels are supplied.

Q: I have some mobility issues, what is access like in the house?

A: As four of the bedrooms are on the upper level, and one of the showers is on the lower level, participants will need to be comfortable with stairs to attend.

Q: I haven’t done yoga before, or for a while, will the yoga classes suit me?

A: The morning yoga will be a gentle Hatha class, and teachers will be able to accommodate mixed levels of experience. For information about the Hatha yoga offered at the retreat see here.

Q: What is Yoga Nidra?

A: Put simply, Yoga Nidra is a relaxation technique involving breath awareness and mental scanning of the body. Performed lying down, supported by blankets and cushions, it requires no particular experience or skill level other than the ability to listen to the instructor. For a more fulsome description of this profoundly restorative technique see here.

Q: Is there internet access?

A: There is no wifi in the building, however limited mobile hot-spotting may be possible, depending on your provider. Given the focus of the retreat, we encourage you to take the opportunity to disconnect as much as possible during the week. Come prepared with all your research materials and make the most of your writing time!

Q: Okay, but what if I really need the internet for something specific and I can’t hotspot at the venue?

A: Full mobile coverage is available in nearby Wentworth Falls, and there is also free wifi at Katoomba library, a 10 minute drive away.

Q: Will I be able to print?

A: There will be a personal laser printer available for small batch printing. Feel free to bring along a (small) portable printer of your own, if you are lucky enough to have one of these.

Q: I work best with certain snack-foods to hand. Can I bring my own snacks?

A: Of course. There will be some snacks provided by the caterers, however you are also welcome to bring additional snacks and store these in the kitchen.

Q: I have certain dietary requirements. Will the chefs be able to cater for me?

A: Yes. The chefs are experienced retreat caterers and are used to accommodating all kinds of dietary requirements. You will have the opportunity to advise us of any specific requirements as part of the booking process.
